Wagering requirements explained

A wagering requirement is the amount you must bet before bonus money, or winnings from it, can be withdrawn. It is written as a multiple, such as 35×, and it is the rule that decides most of what a bonus is worth.

What the multiple applies to

The same multiple can mean very different amounts. The terms say which amount it is applied to:

  • The bonus only: £100 bonus at 35× means £3,500 of bets.
  • Deposit plus bonus: £100 deposit and £100 bonus at 35× means £7,000.
  • The deposit only: some offers wager the deposit, for example 1× before a withdrawal.
  • Free-spin winnings: £20 won from free spins at 10× means £200.

Game weighting changes the real amount

Most terms count only part of each bet on some games. If slots count 100% and table games 10%, a £10 blackjack bet reduces the requirement by £1. At 35× a £100 bonus, that is £35,000 of table-game bets instead of £3,500 on slots. Some games count 0% and do not reduce the requirement at all.

The maximum bet while wagering

While bonus money is in play, terms usually limit each bet, often to a fixed amount such as £5 or to a share of the bonus. A larger bet can lead the casino to remove the bonus and the winnings made with it, so this rule matters as much as the multiple.

Time limits

Wagering must be finished within a set period, for example 7 or 30 days. When the period ends, the remaining bonus and its winnings are usually removed. Free spins often have a shorter deadline of their own.

Maximum cashout

Some bonuses cap what you can withdraw from them, for example £100 from free-spin winnings, however much you win. A cap is common on no-deposit offers. When terms state no cap, that is the absence of a stated cap, not a promise of unlimited winnings.

No-wagering offers

A no-wagering bonus pays winnings as cash you can withdraw straight away. Other rules, such as a cap on winnings or a deadline for using the spins, can still apply.

Rules in Great Britain

From 19 January 2026 the Gambling Commission limits wagering requirements on bonuses offered in Great Britain to 10 times. Offers in other countries follow their own rules, so the same casino can show different terms depending on where you play.

How to check a bonus before you claim it

  • Find the multiple and what it applies to.
  • Check the contribution of the games you plan to play.
  • Note the maximum bet, the deadline and any cashout cap.
  • Read these in the casino's own current terms, not a summary.
