Responsible gambling

Responsible gambling

Gambling should be entertainment you can afford, never a way to make money. If it stops being fun, free help is listed below.

Before you claim a bonus

  • Set a money and time limit before you start, and stop when you reach it.
  • Read the wagering requirement and the maximum bet before you deposit.
  • Never chase losses or borrow money to gamble.
  • Take regular breaks, and do not gamble when you are upset or have been drinking.

Adults only

Gambling is for adults only. You must be at least 18, or older where the law where you live requires it, to gamble or to sign up with a casino through our partner links.

In Canada the minimum age for casino and online gambling is 19 in British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Ontario, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador, and 18 in Alberta, Manitoba and Québec. In Yukon, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut we could confirm only the lottery age: the Western Canada Lottery Corporation sells tickets only to people 18 or older. In Ireland the minimum age is 18.

Warning signs

  • Spending more money or time than you meant to.
  • Gambling to win back what you have lost.
  • Hiding gambling from people close to you.
  • Borrowing money or missing bills because of gambling.
  • Feeling anxious, irritable or low when you are not gambling.

Help in Canada

Canada has no national gambling helpline. Each province runs or funds its own free line; in Alberta it is the general addiction helpline, and in Nova Scotia a weekday intake line for mental health and addictions. We could not confirm a gambling line for Yukon, the Northwest Territories or Nunavut, so those listed are general support lines; Gambling Therapy, below, helps online from anywhere.

Block gambling sites

Many casinos let you set deposit limits, take a break or exclude yourself in your account settings. Blocking software adds a barrier on your own devices.
